Never miss a story!

On September 12th, The Chicago Teacher Residency hosted its quarterly CTR Partnership School Collaborative, convening our partnership school principals to deepen their knowledge of CTR resources, reflect on and share best practices in school leadership, and strengthen their professional network of support. This session focused on building a healthy school culture and climate to train new teachers, with an emphasis on modeling and building emotional intelligence.

To encourage collaboration and shared learning, principals are asked to share lessons from their own experiences. This quarter two principals shared valuable lessons from their schools. Principal Regina Latimer from Earle STEM Elementary School describes herself as a “15 month old principal” and has already collected some amazing school data in that time. She shared that she entered the 2022 school year with 15 vacancies at her school but is now celebrating being fully staffed with two CTR residents training with their mentor teachers. Principal Latimer attributes her success to gathering authentic feedback from her staff by going on a listening tour throughout her building and setting up clear team expectations. Dr. Michael Marzano, principal of Marquette School of Excellence, also shared the lessons he’s learned about creating a culture of collaborative learning. This year, Dr. Marzano has focused on sharing stories as a staff and emphasizing the importance of listening to one another’s stories to build a cohesive staff that loves to work together, ultimately leading to higher teacher retention.

CTR Partnership School principals will come together again next quarter to continue their shared learning.

The purpose of CTR Partnership School Collaborative is to sustain a dynamic professional learning community of school leaders committed to training high quality new teachers with the Chicago Teacher Residency. In our quarterly gatherings, school leaders deepen their knowledge of CTR resources, reflect on and share best practices in school leadership and strengthen their professional network of support.
