Featured on ABC, CBS, and WGN news, Solorio Academy Principal Victor Iturralde was surprised by student-athletes from the organization Buddy’s Helpers and the Pepsico Challenge to honor him during National Inspirational Role Models Month. Solorio Academy High School is part of the AUSL Network of schools and is located in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood. Principal Iturralde has served as Principal of Solorio Academy since the school opened in 2010.

Students from Solorio who participated in school sports and Buddy’s Helpers showed up outside Principal Iturralde’s house on December 1st to present him with a $500 check to donate to a charity of his choice. “I’m very honored, humbled and surprised this morning,” Principal Iturralde said. “I’m so grateful for the love and support I’ve received throughout my career, and I just hope that we can continue to make it through these difficult days.”

Solorio Academy student Lizbeth Barajas also spoke to the media and the Principal, saying: “I’m so proud to be a Solarian and I’m so grateful you’re in charge and thank you for making a difference in our community.”
