Solorio grad Amado Candelario is headed to Harvard University as a 2019 US Presidential Scholar. Amado is interested in Economics and Political Science as majors and is excited to explore the opportunities that exist at Harvard.

Amado was passionate about debate throughout high school and it has given him some of his best memories. His favorite of all was winning the City Championship for Policy Debate in the Varsity Division. His team was the second ever to win from a non-selective enrollment high school. Amado’s debate coach, Conor Cameron, was also his favorite teacher.

Amado had some wise words for fellow students:

The world is scary, dark, and mean. It doesn’t owe anyone anything and for that reason, you must never give up. Believe in yourself, in your worth, and in your background the world will repay you for your hard work, it just takes time. Additionally, understand that failure is imminent, no one is perfect. However, never let failure ruin the capacity for excellence. Stay humble, stay strong, and stay true to yourself and everything that you work for will fall into place.
