Chicago Academy High School graduate Jordyn A. Dean is attending Central Michigan University, her top college pick since her sophomore year in high school, to study Physical Therapy with a Nutrition or Early Childhood minor. Jordyn says her best high school memory was becoming the President of the National Honor Society and Secretary/Treasurer of the African-American Club at her school.

These clubs gave me a chance to make an opportunity for my peers that were minorities.

Her favorite high school teacher, Mr. Massie was never actually her teacher at all, but was still a great coach and mentor for Jordyn. She says Massie was also a father-figure to her, helping her change her mindset from “I can’t to I can” and helping her learn right from wrong.

Massie was the only coach to push me as a student and an athlete so I could succeed mentally and physically.

Jordyn encourages other students to go for grad school and not to discount PWI’s for HBCU’s as you can still apply to PWI with a diverse student body and still get a similar experience. To end, Jordyn wants to remind high schoolers:

Your SAT DOES NOT define who you are!
