We’re all on the same playing field right now with the adjustment to e-learning. I think being open and honest about how it’s new to all of us is really important.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have moved to remote learning for the remainder of the school year. In the face of this challenge, our CTR resident and mentor teachers have been getting creative with technologies and strategies to keep their students engaged. At National Teacher’s Academy, second-grade mentor teacher Erin Flynn Patz and CTR resident Char-Li’ Ali have found new technologies and collaborative spaces with other mentors and residents helpful in the transition to remote teaching. This has taken shape through implementing technologies that they have never used or changing the ways they already use certain techniques in the classroom. Teachers use Teach Like a Champion techniques and translate those to the online classroom.

A technology that they have found helpful from a  is EdPuzzle. With this technology, teachers can implement comprehension questions to video lessons from online. Erin and Char-Li’ have found this helpful for engagement during class but also to help track student comprehension when assigning them individually.

Another new strategy to engage students that Erin and Char-Li’ have implemented is virtual field trips on Wednesday. They just had their class “visit” the San Diego Zoo. The zoo has live enclosure cams, online activities, and educational resources that the teachers used in order to engage the kids in a fun virtual trip.

We are very proud of our educators for stepping up to the challenges COVID-19 has created and we are excited to see more of their creativity shine as online learning continues for the rest of the year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
